About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Spartanburg, South Carolina, The Flounder is a beloved seafood restaurant that offers an authentic taste of coastal Southern cuisine with a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. Known for drawing both longtime locals and curious newcomers, The Flounder invites guests to savor fresh, flavorful dishes crafted with care and served with genuine Southern hospitality.

The menu at The Flounder is a celebration of classic seafood favorites alongside hearty comfort food staples. From the first bite, you’ll notice the care put into dishes like the crispy, golden fried flounder and jumbo shrimp — both fried to perfection with a delicate, flaky crust that bursts with ocean-fresh flavor. The combination platters, featuring a generous mix of fried shrimp, boiled shrimp, and flounder fillets, are a true highlight, allowing diners to enjoy a variety of textures and tastes in one satisfying meal.

Beyond the seafood, the sides and accompaniments stand out just as much. Indulge in hushpuppies that are delightfully light and crispy, or onion rings so perfectly golden and crunchy they’ve earned rave reviews. Fans of Southern staples will also appreciate the creamy oyster and clam chowders, the comforting chicken stew, and the ever-refreshing sweet tea, a staple that pairs beautifully with every dish.

Those with a taste for something a bit different will find enticing options like teriyaki shrimp and salmon salads, while hearty eaters can dig into a choice ribeye or the 8 oz hamburger steak, each cooked to order and served with thoughtful sides like baked potatoes or fresh salads. The Flounder also shines in its down-home sandwiches — from classic cheeseburgers to expertly crafted fish sandwiches, every bite reveals a commitment to quality ingredients and flavor.

What really makes dining at The Flounder special is its warm, inviting atmosphere. Guests consistently mention the attentive, friendly service that makes each visit feel personal and enjoyable. Family-friendly touches, such as coloring pages and crayons for kids, create a relaxed setting where every generation can feel at home. The bustling, lively dining room hums with comfort and familiarity — a place where the no-frills environment allows the food and company to take center stage.

Longtime patrons appreciate the sense of tradition and consistency, recalling years of memorable meals and friendly faces. Newcomers remark on the freshness and quality of every plate, from succulent crab cakes to the lightly breaded fried oysters. Even the desserts leave a lasting impression — the key lime pie, with its perfect balance of tart and sweet, is the ideal way to round out a satisfying meal.

While a few guests have noted changes in pricing, the overall sentiment remains one of genuine appreciation for the honest value and quality The Flounder consistently delivers. Whether you're craving a comforting platter loaded with flounder and shrimp or simply looking to unwind over a tall glass of sweet tea with some heavenly onion rings, The Flounder in Spartanburg stands ready to welcome you with open arms and a plate full of Southern seafood goodness.

The staff greeted us as soon as we entered the dinning area and proceeded to seat us. The onion rings were crispy and fresh. We ordered and got hamburger steak plate and shrimp half plate. My hamburger steak was delicious. The fries I got crispy, were very good, and slaw was very good. My wife said her shrimp were large and delicious. She said her baked potato was incredible. We will be back.

We've been eating here for a long time. I get the seafood platter and wife gets a whitefish plate. I love most everything on the plate. We love The Flounder but haven't been in a while due to our age and health. I was a bit shocked at the new pricing. The waitress was nice as always and kept coming by. The only thing I might change is the deviled crab and the cocktail sauce. I know you can do better because I have eaten better elsewhere in this area. Also, put some info everywhere about buying some of the beautiful photo canvas if you still sell it. We actually miss the glassware but realize you're trying to cut cost. Styrofoam is the most environmentally unsafe thing to use. Usually our family of 3 eats here for around $45-50 but today was $72. We did splurge on the onion rings which were great. Yes I always leave a tip. The only fluke tonight was ordering a baked potato but getting french fries. Otherwise we appreciate you very much.

When we drove in the parking lot at 5:30 on Friday evening and it was already packed, I knew it would be good. Great service, I loved that there are no screens on the walls and they provide crayons and coloring pages for the kids. We had shrimp and flounder and they were both great. The onion rings are absolutely heavenly. I liked the fries, but the hush puppies are too floury and the slaw is way too sweet. Slight adjustment to these recipes and it would be five stars!

This place was good! It opened at 3:20 and there was a line out the door waiting to be let in, but the line was going fast and our party of 17 got in way faster than I expected. Food was great, atmosphere was good, server was great and they have all the kids a fall photo to color!
